MIDDLE LEADERS

Skills for Middle Leaders is a professional development programme for those who are taking on the responsibility of leading an aspect of development perhaps for the first time. It introduces some of the key responsibilities and helps to develop clarity about the role of middle leader.

The programme is designed to help participants carry out a thorough audit of their leadership role as a basis for meaningful and focused action planning.

Key aspects are:

The role of the middle leader in the context of education today
The features of effective learning and development
Ways of gathering information about participants’ areas of responsibility
How to effect change through working alongside colleagues
Accountability and communication responsibilities

Reflection on practice
Analysis, appraisal and synthesis of information
Verbal communication and presentation
Listening and questioning
Negotiation and planning

1.5 days + 4 workshop sessions spread over a 6 month period. Also half a day to visit a partner school/children centre and half a day to host a visit from another participant.

Skills for Middle Leaders is aimed at those new to an education based leadership role.

It has previously run successfully for teachers in individual schools (primary, secondary and special), school collaboratives, and centrally for associate professionals across the workforce.
